Vulnerability Assessment & Penetration Testing

Find the gap in your defenses before someone else does.

B4Q's VAPT engagements combine automated vulnerability scanning with hands-on, ethical penetration testing across your network, web applications, mobile apps, and cloud infrastructure — so exploitable gaps surface on a report, not in a breach notification.

  • Network, web, mobile & cloud coverage
  • Manual exploitation, not scan-only
  • Maps to SOC 2, ISO 27001 & HIPAA

Why It Matters

A scanner finds what's known. A human finds what's exploitable.

Automated vulnerability scanning is fast and broad — it flags outdated software, missing patches, and known CVEs across your environment. But scanners can't chain weaknesses together the way an attacker would, and they generate false positives that waste your team's time chasing non-issues.

Penetration testing is where a security professional manually attempts to exploit what the scan found — and often what it didn't — to show you which findings are actually dangerous, and which are just noise.

  • 01 Separates real, exploitable risk from scanner noise and false positives.
  • 02 Satisfies VAPT requirements baked into SOC 2, ISO 27001, and PCI DSS.
  • 03 Produces a prioritized, remediation-ready report — not a raw scan dump.

What We Test

Four attack surfaces. One coordinated engagement.

Most environments span more than one surface — we scope and test them together so findings on one don't get missed because of a gap on another.

SURFACE 01

Network VAPT

Internal and external network testing — firewalls, servers, and exposed services probed for misconfigurations and exploitable entry points.

SURFACE 02

Web Application VAPT

OWASP Top 10-aligned testing of your web apps — injection, broken auth, access control, and business-logic flaws.

SURFACE 03

Mobile Application VAPT

iOS and Android testing covering local data storage, API communication, authentication, and reverse-engineering resistance.

SURFACE 04

Cloud Infrastructure VAPT

AWS, Azure, and GCP configuration review plus exploitation attempts against IAM, storage, and network security groups.

Choosing a Testing Approach

How much do we know going in?

The amount of information we start with changes what the test proves — each approach answers a different question about your defenses.

Zero prior knowledge

Black Box Testing

We start with no internal knowledge of your environment — the same position an external attacker would be in, simulating a real-world attack from the outside.

RealisticAttacker view

  • Closest simulation of an actual external attacker
  • Tests what's visible from outside your perimeter

Grey Box Testing

We're given partial information — perhaps a standard user account or basic architecture diagram — simulating an insider threat or an attacker who's gained a foothold.

White Box Testing

We're given full access — source code, architecture diagrams, credentials — for the deepest possible review of logic flaws and design weaknesses.

How We Work

From scoping to a report your team can actually act on.

A disciplined process that moves from reconnaissance through exploitation to a prioritized, remediation-ready report — and confirms the fixes actually worked.

01

Scoping & Rules of Engagement

We define targets, testing windows, and boundaries in writing before any testing begins, protecting production systems.

02

Reconnaissance

Open-source intelligence gathering and enumeration to map your attack surface the way a real adversary would.

03

Vulnerability Scanning

Automated scanning across in-scope assets to identify known weaknesses, misconfigurations, and outdated components.

04

Manual Exploitation

A security professional manually attempts to exploit findings and chain weaknesses together, proving real-world impact.

05

Reporting & Risk Prioritization

Findings are rated by severity and business impact, with clear, actionable remediation guidance for each one.

06

Retesting

Once fixes are deployed, we retest affected findings and confirm closure before the engagement is considered complete.

How Findings Are Rated

Every finding comes with a severity, not just a description.

Ratings consider both exploitability and business impact, so your team knows what to fix first.

General severity categories used across engagements — actual ratings depend on your specific environment and data sensitivity.

Critical

Remotely exploitable, no authentication required — full compromise or data exposure possible. Fix immediately.

High

Significant exploitability or impact, often requiring some conditions to be met. Fix on an urgent timeline.

Medium

Limited impact or harder to exploit on its own, but often chainable with other findings. Remediate on schedule.

Low

Best-practice or hardening recommendations with minimal standalone risk. Address as time allows.

Why Now

VAPT isn't just good hygiene — it's often a requirement.

If you're pursuing any of these, VAPT is likely a stated or de facto requirement, and we coordinate the testing with the rest of your compliance work.

Why B4Q

Testing from a team that also builds your compliance program.

Because we also deliver SOC 2, ISO 27001, and HIPAA engagements, VAPT findings get mapped straight into the controls work you're already doing.

Manual, Not Just Automated

Every engagement includes hands-on exploitation attempts, not a rebranded scanner report.

Compliance-Mapped Reporting

Findings are cross-referenced to SOC 2, ISO 27001, and HIPAA controls when those engagements are already underway.

Free Retesting Included

Once you've remediated, we retest affected findings at no additional charge before closing the engagement.

Clear, Written Rules of Engagement

Scope and boundaries are agreed in writing up front, so testing never puts production systems at risk.

50+ Businesses Served

Across network, web, mobile, and cloud engagements of varying scope and complexity.

96% Client Retention

Clients return for annual testing cycles with the same team that already knows their environment.

Questions

VAPT, answered.

Is a vulnerability scan the same as a penetration test?
No. A vulnerability assessment is an automated scan that flags known weaknesses — fast, broad, but prone to false positives. A penetration test is a manual, hands-on attempt to actually exploit those weaknesses (and others a scanner would miss), proving real-world impact. We typically run both together.
Will testing disrupt our production systems?
We agree on rules of engagement, testing windows, and boundaries in writing before any testing begins, and avoid denial-of-service-style techniques unless explicitly scoped and agreed. Most engagements run with no production impact.
How often should we run VAPT?
Most compliance frameworks and best practices call for penetration testing at least annually, or after any significant change to your infrastructure or application. Vulnerability scanning can run more frequently, such as quarterly.
Does VAPT satisfy our SOC 2 or ISO 27001 requirement?
Both frameworks expect regular vulnerability and penetration testing as part of a security program, though neither mandates our specific report format. We scope VAPT engagements to produce evidence that maps directly to the relevant controls in your SOC 2 or ISO 27001 program.
What do we get at the end of the engagement?
A detailed report with an executive summary, severity-rated findings, exploitation evidence, and specific remediation guidance for each issue — plus a free retest once fixes are in place.
